Financial Analyst
Summary
The Financial Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the company’s financial planning, reserving, and reporting functions through data insights and analysis. This role involves developing financial models, supporting forecasting, and enhancing the accuracy and reliability of data-driven insights. The Financial Analyst will use specialised financial tools to support decision-making, compliance, and performance monitoring across the organisation.
Responsibilities
The Business Analyst serves as a liaison between the companies in the ICD Group and their business units and the BCIC Information Technology Department. This includes eliciting, analysing, specifying, and validating the business needs of stakeholders and supporting user testing and quality assurance. The Business Analyst must proactively identify technology solutions and opportunities and ensure that these solutions support business goals. The Business Analyst must also be able to educate IT on business goals and educate the business on the value of IT solutions.
Financial Analysis:
- • Conduct reserving analysis for claims liabilities obtained to support monthly financial reporting.
- • Support the computation of reserves and analysis of claims development patterns.
- • Collaborate with the Underwriting team to analyse and interpret data extracted, focusing on financial analysis.
Reporting and Documentation:
- • Prepare reports, dashboards, and visualisations for internal leadership and external regulators.
- • Provide variance analysis and identify key trends and anomalies.
- • Contribute to the production of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Systems and Process Optimisation:
- • Use and maintain financial software applications for modeling and analysis.
- • Collaborate with IT and Data Analytics teams to optimise data flow and system integration.
- • Identify automation opportunities to improve data accuracy and reporting timelines.
Compliance and Audit:
- • Ensure compliance with IFRS 17 and relevant actuarial and financial regulations.
- • Support audits by preparing detailed working papers
- • Keep abreast of updates to accounting standards and ensure best practices.
Cross-Functional Support:
- • Liaise with Underwriting, Claims, and Risk teams to incorporate financial insights into operations.
- • Participate in budgeting and scenario analysis to guide strategic planning.
Required Skills
Technical Skills:
- • Strong modeling and quantitative analysis capabilities.
- • Familiarity with actuarial software and financial reporting tools.
- • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- • Knowledge of IFRS 17 is an asset.
Competencies:
- • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across departments.
- • Self-starter with curiosity and initiative in improving processes.
Qualifications
- • University degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or related discipline.
- • Minimum 1 – 2 years in a finance, actuarial, or insurance analytics role.
Software Applications Used:
- • Microsoft Excel (Advanced) – Dashboards, pivot tables, financial modeling
- • Power BI / Tableau – Data visualisation and reporting
- • ERP Systems (e.g., ACCPAC) – General ledger and financial systems
- • Microsoft PowerPoint & Word – Presentation and documentation
