Webmaster
Summary
The Webmaster’s role is to coordinate the planning, maintenance, and accessibility of the company’s website and mobile app content in a way that ensures consistency in the look and feel that aligns with the company’s goals and objectives. This individual is also responsible for creating original designs and content for the platforms and ensuring optimal performance and reliability is maintained.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning:
- • Prepare a long-term plan for website development and presence, including standards and guidelines for content, based on business goals and input from stakeholders.
- • Collaborate with other departments and content creators from across the organization to ensure the platforms are aesthetically pleasing and functional.
- • Liaise with systems experts on hardware and software issues that affect the website and its availability.
- • Assess and itemize costs for website enhancements and modifications.
- • Develop, implement, and adhere to regular maintenance policies and procedures, including end-user content change requests, and posted update/maintenance schedules, to ensure site accuracy and timeliness.
- • Develop, implement, and enforce appropriate use and privacy policies.
- • Research and assess competing sites as regards to content, look and feel, and functionality, and make improvement recommendations for the organization’s site as necessary to keep it current in the market space.
- • Participate in IT project planning and implementations as required.
Acquisition & Deployment:
- • Manage the acquisition and ongoing maintenance of the organization’s domain names, IPs and hosting platforms with the appropriate registrars and hosting providers.
- • Track and evaluate new standards, technologies and trends in website development, design, and delivery.
- • Assess, recommend, and purchase Web authoring, development, and publishing tools as required.
Operational Management:
- • Create and maintain a consistent website architectural structure.
- • Ensure a consistent look and feel across the website by promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images, and layout, and creating appropriate templates to assist content authors.
- • Find, diagnose, and fix website problems, including broken links (both internal and external), typographical errors, and formatting inconsistencies.
- • Identify, implement, and manage website presence and promotion opportunities, such as search engine registration and establishing pointer links from other relevant websites.
- • Recommend and implement enhancements and modifications to the website.
- • Manage website security to ensure user’s data protection and privacy.
- • Create and maintain a reference archive website templates and images and older versions of the website and its content.
- • Participate in the development and integration of graphical and multimedia components into the website, including audio and video, with due regard paid to appropriate compression techniques, resolution, sizes, color maps, and depths to ensure high quality and speed of delivery.
- • Ensure sensitive and/or classified organizational information is not inadvertently posted to the website.
- • Set and enforce compatibility and interoperability standards that ensure site accessibility for users with older browser versions as well as low-speed connections and mobile devices.
- • Set and enforce standards that ensure site accessibility for users with disabilities or impairments.
- • Monitor, analyze, and report on website traffic.
- • Create and maintain a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document for website users.
- • Liaise with Service Desk Technicians and other team members to address website issues, requests, and user feedback in a timely manner.
Required Skills
Knowledge & Experience:
- • Expert knowledge of Web technologies, protocols, and tools.
- • Advanced programming experience with HTML/XHTML
- • Strong understanding of other Internet programming languages such as JavaScript, CSS, PHP, jQuery, Python and Ruby on Rails.
- • Expert knowledge of Web authoring, development, and publishing tools including Content Management Systems.
- • Working knowledge of AWS and other Web hosting platforms.
- • Experience working various web/application servers such as Apache and Nginx.
- • Hands-on experience with Web-database integration and a range of database platforms.
- • Strong Search Engine Optimization skills.
- • Experience in E-Commerce site development.
- • Strong understanding of communications, marketing, and customer service principles.
- • Understanding of basic project management principles.
- • Excellent knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- • Familiarity with the fundamental principles of ITIL.

Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree in information technology/Related Field.
- • Professional experience in a webmaster role for a minimum of 3 years.
Additional Information and Instructions
Work Conditions:
- • 40-hour onsite work week with on-call availability for after normal work hours.
- • Sitting for extended periods of time.
- • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components.
- • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
- • A valid driver’s license and reliable motor vehicle is required.
