Underwriting Officer
Summary
Contribute to the profitable growth and quality of the business credit card portfolio by providing financial solutions for clients. Perform risk analysis, deal structuring, negotiation/discussion, and presentation in concert with the Business Development Representative (BDR). Interface directly with clients when required, in partnership with the Business Development Representatives (BDR). Liaise with the Credit Risk Department throughout the credit decision making process.
Responsibilities
- • Complete timely underwriting and submission to the credit risk team credit applications/ proposals received from the Business Development Representatives (BDRs).
- • Review and verify loans and supporting documentation.
- • Evaluate loan and business credit card documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- • Review loan documentation to identify signs of fraudulent activities.
- • Analyze financial data related to loan requests.
- • Perform risk assessments on potential loan recipients based on credit rating, borrowing history, and other specific risk factors.
- • Input client information accurately into the relevant platforms and submit to the credit risk as required.
- • Analyze loan risks and request additional information as necessary.
- • Adjudicate on loan proposals and make recommendations for approval at the appropriate level.
- • Document and effectively communicate reasons for the approval/ rejection of loans.
- • Provide feedback to Business Development Representatives & management on identifiable trends and opportunities for improvement.
- • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.
Required Skills
- • Demonstrated experience in assisting to work towards ambitious targets and sales objectives.
- • Thorough knowledge of retail banking & small and medium enterprise marketplace in Jamaica.
- • Understanding of the Bank’s objectives.
- • Thorough knowledge of segments, strategies, structure, as well as its lending and deposit products and services.
- • Good communication skills.
- • Good interpersonal skills.
- • Analytical skills and ability to assess lending risks.
- • Thorough knowledge of the Banking Services Act and the BOJ Regulations regarding Credit Classification, Provisioning and Non-accrual Requirements.
- • Thorough knowledge of the Bank’s Personal Product Credit Guide, Retail Banking Credit Policy, Products and Services, the Data Protection Act, as well as the proper use and preparation of the relevant underwriting tools/ templates.
- • Knowledge of computer software packages such as word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree in Management Studies, Finance, Banking or Accounting from a recognized tertiary institution.
- • Minimum of four (4) years working experience in banking with at least two (2) years working experience in collections.
