Summary

This role primarily supports the JMMB Group in Jamaica and is required to conceptualise, plan and implement structured corporate communications initiatives to meet agreed marketing objectives, geared towards promoting the organization’s image and products and services; build and protect market share; administer projects related to branding, including all publications and education materials for external use; as well as coordinate public relations programmes, in an effort to meet organizational objectives and position the JMMB Group to the public, clients, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • • Plans, develops and implements effective public relations programmes and activities, designed to keep the public informed of the Group’s products and services, accomplishments, people or agenda. These are with a view to help meet organisational objectives and position the JMMB Group to the public, clients and other stakeholders.
  • • Administers projects related to branding, including corporate communications publications and education materials, for external use; and coordinates and inspects their layouts and production for adherence to specifications. These include articles, client education material and advertorials.
  • • Supports in developing, for approval, the budget for an effective marketing strategy and programmes.
  • • Delivers all corporate communication and public relations activities within the agreed budget.
  • • Participates in the development of an annual marketing plan, which details corporate communication and public relations activities to follow during the fiscal year, and which will focus on meeting organizational objectives.
  • • Monitors and liaises with media houses and practitioners, regarding all corporate communication and public relations matters.
  • • Confers with marketing team leadership and makes recommendations pertaining to contracts and the selection of media to be used for corporate communications and public relations purposes.
  • • Assists with the management, and supports the monitoring, of corporation communication/public relations budget
  • • Proposes, in consultation with the marketing team leadership, publicity opportunities (e.g. speaking engagements, interviews, press conferences, articles, events, etc.) for company spokespersons.
  • • Promotes the organization’s desired corporate image and increases its name recognition by way of contribution of ideas, management of functions and initiatives designed to enhance communications.
  • • Monitors and directs enquiries from the media, according to the organization’s Media Relations Policy.
  • • Monitors news media and public opinion for reports on the organization.
  • • Prepares and distributes fact sheets, media releases, photographs, scripts, video or audio recordings to media representatives, as may be necessary.
  • • Works along with personnel assigned to represent the organisation, to manage JMMB’s presence, as necessary.
  • • Assists with the research and prepares speeches, messages, presentations and public statements on any business line in JMMB Jamaica (investments, merchant bank, insurance and remittances) or other topics for members of the leadership from JMMB Jamaica (investments, merchant bank, insurance, remittance and JD Foundation).
  • • Shares digital news, press releases and photographs with the Marketing Technology Officer for inclusion on the digital channels
  • • Performs any other duties, which may be assigned from time to time, as may be required to support the achievement of the marketing mandate of the country and of the Group.
  • Authority:

    • • Identify and initiate public relations programmes and activities, to enhance and promote the country’s external public relations programme;
    • • Commission the services of external professionals, such as photographers; vidoegraphics; graphic artists; and marketing and public relations agencies, in consultation with the marketing team leads; and
    • • Research and recommend programmes and activities to enhance and promote the organisation’s brand, corporate image and marketing goals.

Required Skills

  • • Excellent oral and written communications skills; having the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Proven creative disposition:

    • • adept at conceptualising and developing communications material.
  • • Proven ability to effectively interact with the media to achieve desired coverage, image and positioning.
  • • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to foster harmonious relations.
  • • Distinct display of initiative.
  • • Excellent customer service skills.
  • • Ability to be able to work under pressure and for extraordinary hours.
  • • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • • First Degree in mass communications, integrated marketing communications, public relations or equivalent qualification;
  • • Tertiary level certification in marketing required, if first degree is in another field
  • • A minimum of 3 years of work-related skill, knowledge, and/or experience in the field of corporate communications and/or public relations
  • • Licensed by the Financial Services Commission or a suitable candidate for licensing

Additional Information and Instructions

  • • Home office environment Daily
  • • JMMB office environment As required
  • • Travel to suppliers, exposure to traffic accidents, and high level of mobility.
  • • Need to meet deadlines set by external agencies.
  • • Working outside of office hours - after work, weekends and Public Holidays.
  • • Timely Communication and responsiveness is critical – so all efficiency tools should be included with this job (cell phone, appropriate travelling allowance, laptop etc.)
