Cargo Information Validator
Summary
Responsibility for monitoring, processing and distributing all information sent to the Terminal’s Operations Planning Department by internal and external customers. Ensure that all vessel information received from agents and ship planners is reconciled. Act as critical support to the vessel planners.
Responsibilities
- • Process vessel operational Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) files from external customers, confirming and verifying the accuracy of information received. Advise relevant internal parties (CIV Supervisor, Execution Planning, Planning Specialist, Vessel Planners and/or Yard Planners) of special handling requests
- • Validate discharge and load list from agent and liaison confirming processing and correctness of information received. Reconcile load list with stowage instructions received from overseas Ship Planners, identifying, communicating and resolving discrepancies
- • Ensure critical checks per checklist are done and address all discrepancies with the agents prior to commencement of vessel operation
- • Advise shipping line/agents of containers which are unavailable for loading at cargo cut-off which will be deleted from the load-list. Ensure that “expected containers” which have been accepted for loading are highlighted and communicated to all relevant parties
- • Advise relevant internal parties of abnormal amounts of additions, cancellations, connections or change of destination
- • Ensure change request prior to vessel reconciliation is sanctioned by Central Planner and acknowledged by relevant internal parties
- • Monitor the flow of vessel operations information from internal and external customers, ensure that agreed timelines are adhered to and advise management of delays in a timely manner
- • Monitor emails on an ongoing basis and act on instructions received or direct email to the relevant individuals/section for processing.
- • Assign empty units for each vessel, relaying non-specific empties units request to Yard Planning based on requests from agents
- • Register and update vessel alternate voyages in the terminal systems within the established timeframe.
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, or International Commerce
- • Three (3) years’ working experience in a port/maritime environment
- • Training in Operations Planning and Management
- • Understanding of the Terminal Operating System (TOS) and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
- • Understanding of the different types of strategies and how to apply a continuous improvement culture
- • Understanding customers’ needs and aligning those needs with terminal processes
- • Understanding of the container shipping industry and the ability to relate with shipping companies
- • Leadership, analytical thinking, initiative, information seeking
- • Customer service orientation, integrity
