Smart Energy Grants of up to $1.5 million to public sector pensioners
The National Housing Trust is offering Smart Energy Grants of up to $1.5 million to public sector pensioners for the installation of solar electricity panels in their homes. Applications are open from October 1-4, 2024. Eligible applicants must be 60 years or older, have retired with an income of no more than $30,000 per week, own and occupy the property for which the system will be installed, and not have previously installed similar systems. Applications can be submitted online at the NHT website or at local NHT offices, where assistance is available for those who need help completing the application. TO APPLY YOU MUST:
- Be 60 years or older.
- Have earned no more than $30,000 per week at retirement.
- Own and occupy the property for which the solar energy system will be installed.
- Not have already installed similar systems.
HOW TO APPLY
- Apply via the NHT's website (www.nht.gov.jm) or at your nearest NHT office.
- Pensioners must have their TRN and NIS cards /numbers as well as their employment history before beginning the application process. You will be required to input personal and employment details.
- Where an applicant is unable to complete the application form, the form may be completed by a family member, caregiver, neighbor or non-government organization (e.g. church/community based organization).
