The Ministry of Education and Youth is dedicated to supporting Jamaican students in their academic pursuits through various funding opportunities, including the UTech Open Scholarship. This guide provides essential information regarding application periods, submission guidelines, and specific requirements for the UTech Open Scholarship.

Application Period and Submission Guidelines

The application period for funding commences April 1 and closes June 30.

Applicants are encouraged to SUBMIT their applications even if they are awaiting Status/Tuition letters and Transcripts. All other required documents for consideration should be uploaded promptly.

Please note the following:

  • Students awaiting CSEC, CAPE, and acceptance letters from their institution of choice will be provisionally processed. The release of their results is awaited, but submission of all other documents must be completed by June 30.
  • Continuing students without transcripts, statement of fees, and status letters may submit all outstanding documents by June 30.

ONLY SHORTLISTED STUDENTS AND/OR COMPLETED APPLICATIONS WILL BE PROCESSED.

UTech Open Scholarship

The Ministry of Education and Youth will award scholarships to University students who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in any faculty at the University of Technology (UTech). Applicants are responsible for making their own application to UTech for admission.

Documents to be Submitted:

  • Certified copy of birth certificate or evidence of date of birth.
  • A statement written by a reputable member of the community attesting that you have resided in Jamaica during the last three consecutive years.
  • Two passport-size photographs.
  • One copy of a statement of not more than 200 words as instructed at item 17 (specific instructions for item 17 would be on the application form itself).
  • Valid evidence of acceptance/registration at the University of Technology.
  • Character reference letter from a member of the community (e.g., Education Officer, Principal, Minister of Religion, or Justice of the Peace).
  • Letter of reference: Academic/Professional.
  • Letter of approval from Chief Personnel Officer or his representative (in the case of applicants in the Civil Service).
  • Certified copies of educational certificates/diplomas and a current progress report if currently attending University.

Conditions of Award:

  • Successful candidates will be required to sign a bond agreeing to work in Jamaica, specifically in a Government-owned institution, for a period not exceeding five (5) years.
  • Applicants are advised that incomplete applications will NOT be accepted.
  • The scholarship award is valid for the academic year immediately following the offer of the award and cannot be deferred for any reason.

N.B. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.

Important Warning:

Any misleading/fraudulent information given will disqualify an applicant from accessing the programme.
