Field Service Operator - Power
Summary
To support operate and maintain the electrical and standby power systems at all existing cell sites and support the provision of electrical power and standby power to these sites. Provide support for the expansion of electrical/mechanical facilities at all cell site locations and provide support on all aspects of electrical and mechanical related issues such as generators, lighting and grounding matters to the VPTO Group (Field, NOC and Rigging Engineers). Manage contractors such that they operate to defined standards and support the network according to agreed SLA, standards and Government regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- • Maintenance of power equipment to perform routine checks on standby generators, rectifiers and batteries and engage other stakeholders and commercial power company for identified anomalies not in scope
- • Resolve power generation fault reports and low fuel level reports from the Field Engineers
- • Support the Facilities team in the site acquisition process for new sites with power and mechanical related recommendations.
- • Perform/support performance of power related site acceptance for new cell sites and new prime and standby power generators for cell sites.
- • Resolve reported faults on DC plants, generator, power line within site perimeter, site electrical, UPS and air condition units on cell sites.
- • Perform periodic grounding checks on tower and standby plant systems including resistance checks, maintain standards and resolve or recommend appropriate solutions
- • Identify cell sites that are prone to lightning strikes and recommend or implement appropriate solutions to mitigate damage
- • Devise energy saving measures for cell sites and power security and monitoring measures and make recommendations for implementation
- • Periodically visit cell sites and perform routine maintenance activities to ensure that all air conditioning units, power plants and generators are in good working condition. Highlight and escalate where necessary any anomalies outside of scope.
- • Perform periodic routines on all DC systems including battery checks, float voltage , charging systems, and inverters on selected sites and recommend appropriate solutions
- • Engage with and monitor external contractors scheduled or emergency site visits and activities
- • Monitor any special projects at cell sites such that there is no interruption in power supply and systems availability.
- • Monitor, manage and maintain generators, electrical, grounding and air condition inventory such that there are adequate spares to support the network.
- • Rectify and /or Liaise with Field Engineers, riggers and other persons to have all repairs to generators, power equipment within site perimeter, grounding and all other power and mechanical related issues rectified within three working days.
- • Keep Power Mechanical Manager updated on all power and mechanical issues extending beyond three days for action.
- • Maintain and update the relevant electrical and mechanical related databases weekly
- • Prepare technical reports and analysis of site performance and site maintenance periodically as required
- • Develop and Implement performance enhancement methods and procedures and support system expansions and augmentations in order to maintain a high standard of system reliability and keep pace with business growth.
- • Support the Power Mechanical Manager by identification of OPEX and CAPEX related items for inclusion in the relevant budgets throughout each financial year.
- • Plan and execute/support planned activities in scheduled maintenance window according to change management policy
- • Liaise with and support vendors and eternal partners to ensure full systems functionality and escalate where necessary.
- • Respond to all out of office emergency calls for generators, air conditions, electrical and power/mechanical issues as necessary.
- • Perform any other power and mechanical related duties as defined by the Power and Mechanical manager or the business.
Qualifications
- • Ideally, a Diploma in telecommunications, electronics, computer science or equivalent qualifications.
- • Must hold a General Drivers Licence for at least 3 years
- • The position requires at least three (3) years of working experience in the maintenance of power and mechanical equipment, including: 1. Operation and maintenance of grounding systems and standards, 2. Operation and maintenance of power and electrical systems and standards, 3. Operation and maintenance of small air conditioning systems and standards, and 4. Working knowledge of government electrical standards.
