Insect Inspector (HSC/HS 3)

Summary

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking strong, dynamic, and proactive individuals to fill the position of Insect Inspector at the St. Mary Health Department. Under the general direction of the Parish/Programme Specialist (Vector Control), the incumbent will be responsible for safeguarding public health and mitigating vector borne diseases through vector control source reduction activities. Salary Range: 💰 $1,332,574 – $1,584,011 JMD per annum.

Responsibilities

• Conduct entomological surveys to include the collection of samples:

  • • larvae, pupae, and adult mosquito samples;
• • Mapping of mosquito breeding sites by specie, level of infestation, distribution and recommend appropriate intervention
• • Regular inspection of premises for active or potential breeding sites to include high-risk premises
• • Assist in the investigation of complaints relating to mosquitoes and other vectors of public health significance
• • Assist in fogging exercise for adult mosquito breeding
• • Distributing Information Education & Communication (IEC) materials as required
• • Initiating surveys in specified areas as requested
• • Carry out any other duties related to the control of vector borne diseases that will arise from time to time.

Required Skills

• • Operation of the Fogging and Mist-blower machine
• • Mixing of chemicals for vector control

Qualifications

• • 4 subjects at the GCE, CXC OR CSEC level (Including English Language)
• • At least one (1) year experience in vector control
