Summary

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the incumbent is responsible for carrying out manual tasks that contribute to a clean, safe, well-maintained buildings, office environment and general surroundings at all JCAA properties in Montego Bay (Norwood, Sangster Tower and Airport Facilities). The incumbent is also required to support the efficient completion of infrastructure activities and events carried out the Authority, as required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the environment is clean, tidy and conducive to work by:
    • Washing windows and doors on a fortnightly basis
    • Clearing outdoor pathways of debris and washing passageways, walkways, awnings, and mats weekly and as required
    • Appropriately packaging contents of garbage receptacles and rubbish and disposing in the skips provided daily
    • Cleaning and polishing fleet vehicles as required
    • Ensuring that vehicle wash station is always tidy
  • Provide landscaping services according to standard to include the maintenance of water-features, outdoor gardens, sweeping grounds, cutting lawns and pruning shrubs/trees
  • Ensure all equipment are secured and stored appropriately after use
  • Clean water tanks and replenish drinking water supply as per schedule
  • Assists with movement of fixed assets and other materials as directed
  • Assists with minor maintenance of roof to include sweeping, patching, and painting of membrane as required
  • Perform minor repairs to ceilings, floors and walkways to include patching/filling cracks, replacing loose/damaged tiles/pavers as the case requires
  • Assist with minor plumbing works such as the installation, change, or repair of plumbing fixtures and fittings
  • Assist with maintaining aesthetic appeal of in-house and off-station facilities as required by painting walls, or removing scuff marks
  • Perform any other related duties assigned from time to time.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Non-Technical:
    • Ability to operate landscaping tools and equipment
    • Ability to listen effectively, communicate clearly, with respect and tact
    • Basic painting skills
    • Ability to work on own initiative and to solve routine problems
    • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
  • Technical:
    • Working knowledge in the operation of landscaping tools and equipment such as lawn-mowers, weed-whackers, blowers, trimmers and power saw machine
    • Working knowledge of painting techniques
    • Basic knowledge of plumbing/carpentry/masonry

Preferred Qualifications

  • Junior Secondary Education up to Grade 9 or NVQJ Level 1
  • One (1) year relevant work experience
