Senior Technician, Splicing
Summary
Installs, tests, disconnects, programs, repairs, monitors, and maintains Fibre, Copper & Coaxial, telecommunication lines and cables, Video and data equipment to include Nodes, Amplifiers, Splitters, Metro Ethernet, Direct Internet Access, Direct Fibre. Installs, programs, and disconnects special services equipment, lines and terminals, customer-related equipment and the Company’s security system. Installs and maintains all Distribution and Exchange (D & E) side copper cables, all distribution coaxial cables, inspects/investigates new installations and maintenance jobs, rehabilitating building terminals, MDU/MCU, drop and station wires. GPON Plant build for F1 and F2 inclusive of mechanical and fusion fibre splicing, FDP installation. Conducts on-the-job training of Trainee and Junior Technicians. Provides assistance in the procurement of tools and materials and performs administrative duties in the absence of the supervisor.
Responsibilities
Interpret Engineering design drawings to ensure the most feasible building of the Copper, Fibre or Coaxial Plant by:
- • Modifying the placement of plant items to suit the feasibility of the customer population or the safety of the plant item.
- • Conducts pre-installation inspections of sites and refers to External Plant Engineering where major modifications are required of the Plant design.
Install, program, disconnect, reconfigure, rehabilitate, re-concentrate, remove, and relocate:
- • Metro Ethernet circuits.
- • Direct Internet Access Circuits
- • Direct Fibre Circuit HFC Network
Troubleshooting and repair of the various types of data circuits:
- • Metro Ethernet circuits.
- • Direct Internet Access Circuits
- • Direct Fibre Circuit HFC Network
- • Installation of temporary service circuits for the B2B Services department.
- • Installation of transmission fibre routes for the mobile cell sites.
- • Installation and repair of 860 and 540 coaxial cables to facilitate the delivery of the distribution of triple play services over the Hybrid Fibre Coaxial network.
Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair service impairment issues on the hybrid fibre coaxial network that relate to the following items:
- • Nodes inclusive of rebalancing exercises
- • Fibre Access Points
- • Leakage impairments
- • Severe Degradable Modem Hours (SDMH)
- • Responds to customers’ queries and/or redirects as necessary.
- • Assists the Supervisor with on-the-job training of Level two and trainee Technicians and performs acting and /or supervisory duties in his absence.
Qualifications
- • Diploma from the University of Technology in Electrical Engineering/Telecommunication or .Successful completion of the Heart NTA Telecommunication training
- • Minimum of Four (4) years’ experience as a Telecommunication Technician
