Summary

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a dynamic, proactive and forward thinking individual with strong analytical and team player skills to fill the position of Dental Nurses for the St. Ann and St. Mary Health Departments Reporting to the Consultant Dental Surgeon/Dental Surgeon, the individual is responsible to instruct children in oral health care, assists them in maintaining proper dental health habits; instruct teachers, organizations, community health committees, Parent Teachers Associations and other similar bodies in the principles of oral hygiene and the prevention of disease. Salary Range: 💰 $3,241,533 – $3,853,164 JMD per annum.

Responsibilities

  • Key Duties will include (but not limited to):

    • Carrying out routine examination; preparing treatment plan; submitting selected treatment plans for review by clinic dentist; implementing treatment plan as required.
    • Evaluating periodontal health, performing prophylaxis which includes scaling, cleaning and polishing teeth to remove tartar and other deposits, and stains from the exposed surface of the teeth and directly beneath the free gingival margins; referring patients for treatment procedures beyond competence and training.
    • Administering local anaesthesia, controlling post extraction haemorrhage and infection by local means; including suturing, applies preventive medication
    • Preparing and filling carious teeth of children with material such as amalgam, composite, intermediate restorative materials, performing pulpotomics, extracting deciduous teeth.
    • Liaising with other members of the Primary Heath Care team, and act in an advisory capacity on matters of dental health especially for the schools.

Required Skills

  • Ability to handle dental instruments and materials carefully and dexterously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive work attitude

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Dental Nursing/Dental Therapy.
  • Registration with the Dental Council of Jamaica.
  • First Aid Certificate.
