Summary

Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor the Maintenance Officer is responsible for implementing a robust corrective and preventative maintenance programme for the properties and equipment including HVAC systems, electrical/mechanical infrastructure in the jurisdiction. S/he will also inspect work done to determine compliance with work orders, liaise with contractors engaged in the repair and refurbishing of spaces, landscapes and equipment. đź’°Salary: $2,803,771 JMD per annum

Responsibilities

  • Key Outputs:

    • • Preventative maintenance schedules adhered to
    • • Repairs to equipment, furniture, buildings, driveways, electrical and plumbing systems effected
    • • Repairs completed according to standard
    • • Safety protocols observed
    • • Appropriate signage in place
    • • Services (supplier/in-house) delivered on time
    • • Attractive landscapes and frontage
    • • Advise provided
    • • Limited impediment to operations
  • Technical / Professional:

    • • Appraises the team on matters and queries relating to the physical infrastructure, utilities and maintenance of facilities in jurisdiction.
    • • Assists in the preparation of a preventative and routine maintenance schedule for buildings, equipment, furniture, HVAC and other assets. Follows through with process to services these assets as indicated in the schedule.
    • • Monitors the work of external contractors, following through to ensure completion of works to standard and in accordance with terms of contract. This includes facilitating access to sites and being available to contractors in the process of retrofitting/refurbishing facilities; effecting repairs to major electrical, sewage and plumbing systems, building and infrastructure and fencing at designated locations.
    • • Prepares and presents valuation reports on infrastructural projects, validates claims and prepares bills to effect maintenance contracts for repairs to access points, refurbishing of bathrooms, offices and other buildings or construction of new sewage disposal systems as required.
    • • Responsible for the movement, repair and replacement of furniture.
    • • Assists as directed with the setting up of venues for Agency’s assemblies and staged events
    • • Adheres to the Agency’s Workplace Health and Safety policy and assist in the implementation and evaluation of initiatives to reinforce the policies tenets.
    • • Performs any other duties as assigned from time to time which may be deemed to fall within the remit of the post.

  • Authority:

    • • Inspect work done by contractors and determine level of compliance with expectations
    • • Relocate/organize movement of furniture, equipment, building asset to new locations
  • Decisions referred to immediate supervisor:

    • • Budget sign-off or overruns for projects
    • • Occupation Health and Safety matters
    • • Allocation of office furniture and resources to staff

Required Skills

  • Technical:

    • • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of two or more artisan skills such as required in carpentry, electrical and plumbing.
    • • Sound knowledge of the techniques of construction management.
    • • Basic knowledge of the relevant computer systems and applications
    • • Basic knowledge of Government’s Procurement Guidelines and Contracts Administration.

Qualifications

  • • Diploma in Urban Development and Planning or NCTVET Level 3 in General Construction, or an area of specialization such as plumbing/electrical installation/carpentry
  • • At least two (2) years related experience.

Additional Information and Instructions

  • Working Conditions:

    • • Normal office environment most of the time
    • • Travel to locations within jurisdiction as required
    • • Occasionally exposed to the elements and tropical weather conditions
    • • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs/22.7Kg
