Summary

Under the direction of the Senior Accountant, Final Accounts and Reporting, the incumbent is responsible for the management of transactions to the general ledger thus ensuring that the financial statements are free from material misstatements. đź’°Basic Salary: $2,803,771 JMD per annum.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative:

    • • Assists in the development and revision of objectives and strategies of the Branch’s Strategic/Operational Plan;
    • • Participates in the quarterly evaluation of the performance of programme managers in achieving the objectives and strategies in the Strategic/Operational Plan;
    • • Develops and submits periodic progress and annual reports, as well as other reports as necessary;
    • • Attend meetings, conferences, workshops and seminars as required;
    • • Assists the Senior Accountant in maintaining the appropriateness of the General Ledger;
  • Technical/Professional:

    • • Assists in the maintenance of the General Ledgers;
    • • Analyses valuation of staff benefits provision;
    • • Maintains a TQM on the Account Payable transactions (posting);
    • • Analyses salary expenditure transactions;
    • • Analyses valuation of inventory;
    • • Generates corrected journal transactions;
    • • Generates journal to clear non reimbursable imprest transactions;
    • • Monitors the Regional Imprest value;
    • • Examines bills, claims, vouchers etc., submitted in support for the clearance of advances, ensuring that the documents are valid and that the goods and services obtained from use of said advances were as noted in the original request for the advance;
    • • Prepares journal vouchers and upload to the financial system with accompanying supporting;
    • • Assists in the maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register;
    • • Assists in ensuring that all Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Income Receivable, Accruals, Prepayments, Receipts, Lodgements, Payments, Depreciation Provisions, other Provisions, Release from Reserves etc. are accurately and properly brought to account in the period to which they relate;
    • • Assists in ensuring that all journal vouchers for advance clearance and other adjustments in respect of the month have been correctly posted and are properly reflected in the accounts;
    • • Assists in ensuring that all manual cheques and cheque cancellations have been properly brought to account;
    • • Assists in ensuring that warrant issues, warrant transfers, warrant adjustments and cash advances are properly brought to account under the relevant heads;
    • • Assists in the printing and checking of the following statements for accuracy and completeness in respect of all heads; - Final Accounts; State of Position Balance Sheet; Statement of Performance Income and Expenditure; Statement of Cash Flow; Change in Equity;
    • • Assists the Senior Accountant, Final Accounts and Reporting to resolve all errors found in the above statements;
    • • Clears Advances and ensures that they are original and certified

Qualifications

  • • B.Sc. in Accounting or Management Studies with Accounting from a recognized University e.g. UWI; PLUS
  • • Two (2) years’ experience in similar capacity.
  • OR
  • • AAT Level 3 OR;
  • • ACCA-CAT Level 3 OR;
  • • Diploma in Accounting from a recognized University e.g. UTECH OR;
  • • A.Sc. Accounting OR;
  • • Diploma in Government Accounting (MIND) PLUS
  • • Three (3) years’ experience in a similar capacity
