Summary

To prepare and deliver instructional activities to children using effective teaching methods that promote meaningful learning experiences, in alignment with the Ministry of Education Curriculum and in accordance with the protocols outlined in the Child Care & Protection Service Manual. đź’°Salary: $3,501,526 - $4,709,163 JMD per annum

Responsibilities

  • • Plan programs for the enhancement of the wards' development and educational needs.
  • • Maintain accurate and complete education records of the wards and submit progress reports within agreed timeframes.
  • • Maintain the integrity of confidential data.
  • • Prepare and submit lesson plans and timetables within the established timeframe.
  • • Conduct instructional sessions as timetabled using the established curriculum and relevant/appropriate teaching methodologies/strategies to enhance the learning process.
  • • Prepare and administer classroom tests and submit results in specified formats and timeframes.
  • • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet wards' varying needs and interests.
  • • Provide counseling and guidance on educational matters to the wards.
  • • Identify wards showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems and discuss them with the Manager, Social Worker, Psychologist, or other Health provider.
  • • Provide and implement remedial programs for wards requiring extra help.
  • • Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.
  • • Teach rules of conduct and maintain discipline and a suitable learning environment in the classroom.
  • • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • • Prepare and submit training material requirements within established timeframes and account for all equipment and materials assigned.
  • • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guests, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
  • • Play a key role in planning and implementing extracurricular, social, and other activities engaged in by the wards to enhance their developmental needs.
  • • Administer tests to help determine wards' developmental levels, needs, and potential.
  • • Invigilate/adjudicate internal examinations when needed.
  • • Attend professional meetings, education conferences, and Teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • • Collaborate with other Teachers and Administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of programs for the benefit of the wards.
  • • Attend staff and departmental meetings or training as required by the Agency.
  • • Uphold timely attendance at meetings as required.
  • • Maintain attendance records.
  • • Perform advisory duties such as student organizations or clubs, helping wards select courses.
  • • Work with wards to increase motivation.
  • • Maintain confidentiality and trusting relationships in accordance with the mandate of the Agency.
  • • Perform any other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Required Skills

  • • Knowledge of the Child Care and Protection Act, Children (Adoption) Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • • Knowledge of Child Development Agency procedures and practices.
  • • Knowledge of issues affecting children locally and internationally.
  • • Knowledge of principles and methods of curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction of children, and the measurement of training effects.
  • • Caring, patient, and a good listener.
  • • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • • Knowledge of physical and mental dysfunctions, and skills in career counseling and guidance.
  • • Knowledge of human behavior and performance.
  • • High professional ethical behavior.
  • • Good knowledge of developmental stages of children.
  • • Service-oriented.
  • • Excellent organizing, planning, and time management skills.
  • • Learning strategies.
  • • Good report writing skills.
  • • Coaching skills.
  • • Knowledge of CPR and First Aid.

Qualifications

  • • Bachelor of Science in Education
  • • Three (3) years' experience in a direct or related environment
  • • Certification in Counseling and/or experience in teaching at the remedial level would be an asset
  • OR
  • • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
