
Applications Engineer
Summary
The Software Application Engineer will work as part of an application-specific support team, responsible for providing frontline end-user and technical support for users of commercial 'off-the-shelf' or in-house developed applications within Digicel across all markets. This role involves liaising with third-party vendors for support, patch management, upgrades, or configuration changes to these systems. Additionally, the engineer will ensure that proper change management and system administration best practices ar implemented and adhered to in the company
Responsibilities
- • Investigate user problems and needs, identify their source, and determine possible solutions
- • Participates in the development, implementation, installation, and testing of applications software.
- • Responsible for understanding the application including designing, building, and configuring the application. May be responsible for more than one application
- • Works closely with other teams and departments to make appropriate business and application integration decisions
- • Documentation of Application specific procedures and processes
- • Expected to be knowledgeable on product limitations and planned development efforts, be able to assist in development of proposed "work-arounds" for product limitations
- • Familiarity with and adheres to standard concepts, practices, and procedures, including quality control
- • Supports SDLC, Configuration, Change Request and Problem Management operations and guidelines
- • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network
- • Ensures regular updates on open issues and facilitates communication to the Business
Required Skills
- • High standard of effective communication and presentation skills
- • Previous experience gained working with a large corporate environment with an understanding of relevant testing methodologies
- • Problem solving and analytical skills
- • Understanding of Software development life cycle
- • Understanding of applications development environment, database, data management and infrastructure capabilities and constraints
- • Ability to analyze, translate and define business requirements into technical solutions
- • Ability to evaluate and interpret end user information requirements and to develop appropriate systems and/or applications solutions
- • Ability to liaise effectively with team members, business units and technology team
- • Working knowledge of UNIX and Linux, C, C#, C++, PERL, PHP, Windows Active Directory, Microsoft SharePoint
- • Proficient with major programming and scripting languages (JAVA, .NET Suite, ASP.NET MVC, Entity Framework, SQL, PL-SQL)
Qualifications
- • Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology
- • 1-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in application engineering, highly preferred
- • Industry certification in 1 or more programming languages is an added advantage
- • Support the administration functions required to support the normal operations of the software
