
Senior Generator Engineer
Summary
Install and maintain Power Generators and DC Power Supply Systems and associated apparatus in a safe, efficient, and timely manner at technical and non-technical sites across the country. Ensuring consistent and safe voltage and power levels are maintained in accordance with industry and manufacturers standards and best practices to achieve availability and functionality of power, fire suppression, building control and other systems, equipment, and batteries always. Also immediately report and take corrective actions of anomalies and failures of critical power infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- • Ensuring that power and power systems, generators and relevant equipment are maintained and serviced based on globally accepted standards, manufactures specifications and best practices and reports provided where applicable.
- • Ensuring alerts and notifications are expeditiously attended to and escalated in a timely manner should the need arise.
- • Monitoring and resolving issues based on alerts, gauges, readings, and inspections of equipment against set indicators whilst ensuring compliance with those standards.
- • Liaising with key stakeholders to ensure that power related issues and contribution factors reported or detected are attended to immediately and report provided on findings and resolutions. The Quality Assurance system is functioning properly; where appropriate recommend and implement changes to ensure improvement in quality.
- • Assist with periodic auditing of power equipment and devices and suppression units to ensure maximum availability and uptime of same and report on findings with recommendations.
- • Ensure that the relevant databases are kept up to date and report any anomalies immediately.
- • Utilize and analyses data to drive performance improvement.
- • Responsible to install, maintain, operate and service a range of well-known diesel generators ranging from 10KVA to 1MW, power equipment and systems including for air-conditioning, fire suppression systems, and building control systems at all technical and non-technical sites across Jamaica.
- • Monitor alarms, gauges, and other instruments associated with plant operations and conduct periodic inspections and audits.
- • Perform quality checks to ensure systems are working efficiently and safely.
- • Finding and fixing faults.
- • Helping to find ways to reduce energy use.
- • Prepare equipment for maintenance and inspection (using shut down, lock out, and restart) procedures and maintain a daily log of operation, maintenance, and safety activities.
- • Collaborate with Operations Support and the management team in the preparation of quotes and raising of shopping carts.
- • Participates in the determination of generators and DC power engineering standards and procedures and the evaluation of materials, tools, and equipment.
- • Be a part of the on-call rota.
- • Perform any other job-related duties as required.
- • Adhere to company health & safety standards.
Required Skills
- • Ideally strong knowledge of diesel generators such as FG Wilson, SMDO,JCB, Powertrac,, Caterpillar Petbow, Volvo and HimoinsIn-depth knowledge of the processes and procedures that govern mechanical and electrical principles related to generators and DC power.

Qualifications
- • Ideally a bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical engineering or related discipline.
- • Formal training in installation and maintenance of generators and DC power systems.
- • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a telecommunications environment.
